Notes: This is a gem crystal on clear grey potch cabochon that I cut from one of the rare opals that I actually found myself. The gem crystal opal displays a 3-D layering of lively floral and flagstone patches. It is full colour predominately orange, in all directions.
Before, and after I got claims of my own, I looked after an opal camp residence (and pets) just on the outskirts of the LR township for four weeks for 20 years over the hot summer holiday period. During my first season, I worked my friend Ron's claim at Nebia Hill... this was a well worked claim and I worked a small drive off the run and this stone was one of three small stones cut from a small vein of opal in the opal dirt. That was back in 1990...I'm still doing part time mining in my onw claims and still searching for the elusive gem patch without success in 35+ years ...Fortunately, I have been able to buy at the right time and place a few lucky opal deals on a small budget. also, my friend Ron has been a very good mate to me on the opal fields over the years. To me, true friendships are more valuable than any treasures....I hope someone really likes this opal that is so special and personal to me ...It's a very interesting stone with a thick colour bar, stable (obviously at 35 years ago cut) and interesting shape. At one stage, I was thinking of making it the main body part of a butterfly design opal jewellery piece....I'm also offering a celebratory website opening discount for a limited time...
