| Notes: | COLLECTOR or AGATE CONNOISSEUR SPECIAL: This is one of my all time favorite cabochons of Agate Creek agate... It was carefully and lovingly cut as a competition cabochon in the Australian National Gem and Lapidary competion some years ago and took out first place in the Aesthetic Appeal (Open) section. At $AU 7 per carat asking price (less than $US5/ct) I feel confident that this is an excellent buy for the connoisseur or collector or jewellery designer wanting that extra special piece. It is highly polished on all sides including the constant angle, constant width back bevel. The colours and patterns are dramatic ...with the "green" here typical of Agate Creek agates being an optical illusion. The pistachio green colouring is actually micro plates of a yellow iron mineral commonly called " gold fleck" and if they are the right size and density the parallel layers, the result is 'shadow' and with the gold yellow a green appearance combined result as seen by the eye. The "green" layer morphs into red here by means of chromatography...another interesting feature. As a website launch celebration, I'm offering a discount for a limited time. I consider agates like this "Nature's Artwork". |
