Notes: This is an N1 black opal that was cut from a parcel I bought in 1989...my first parcel...Some of the brightest black opal came from this field. This part of the field was renowned for very stable opal and this 36+ year old cut stone is as good as the day it was cut. It has been in my personal collection awaiting a planned project to suit it"s interesting forest trees (grass pattern tecinically?) type pattern...N1 blacks these days attract an extra premium. The Lightning Ridge Miners Association valuation service some years ago valued this "on field" buyer"s price at $2025 but it has had higher opinions...Retail?... it is at least three times that price...set in jewellery, even somewhat higher as the risk of setting has passed, even if for this very robust opal that is extremely low. For an opening of website celebration, for a short period I'm offering the field price rounded down to $2000 AU.
